The BIG Day

When I first got to my internship site, I didn’t know what to do or what to expect. I was glad I wasn’t interning alone, my friend Anakarimhe got the same internship. We both got there and we couldn’t find the entrance. When we finally did, we were really nervous. We walked to the front desk and told a worker that we were interns with cultural arts and the recreation department. He signaled to a door and told us they would help us there. We rang the doorbell and Cinthya, the girl who had interviewed us opened the door. She walked us to a small office which belonged to Lynnette, Anakarimhe’s mentor. She then introduced us to everyone in the office. One thing that really surprised me was how nice everyone was. They would all welcome us with a big smile and a firm handshake. The first day we also met the mayor of Chula Vista, and we got invited to go to a TEDx Talk. After meeting the mayor and one of the guys that is going to be talking at the TEDx Talk, we went back to our little office. Lynnette then introduced me to my mentor, Shaun Ellis. The first thing I noticed about him was that he’s very tall! The rest of the day was pretty chill, we got to help Lynnette and Cinthya organize some papers and powerpoints for an event that was happening that night. Anakarimhe and I were working at out desk when Tracy, a man that we had been introduced to walked up to us. He started telling us about how he’s new too, how he started working here two weeks ago. He then left and came back with a small chocolate that he got from his trip to Switzerland.

The second day was rough. I was assigned to do a spreadsheet for an event that’s coming up, Fun Run. I was supposed to plug in the person’s first and last name, email, phone number, and many more things. I didn’t think it was going to take me the whole day, but it did. I’ll admit it, I did procrastinate a bit, but it still took me very long to finish. On the second day, I also got my internship project assigned. My project is going to be to make a brochure about Chula Vista. I don’t have to add all the information to it, but I need to make a template. It won’t be on paper, but it’ll be online which I think is pretty cool. I am kind of nervous to start it since I don’t know where to make it. I think I’m just going to make it on Canva since I’m already a bit familiar with it. I would push myself to do it on photoshop, but I don’t have a lot of time to learn how to use it properly. If I finish the template on time I’ll be able to add all the information on it, but for now, I need to make the template first. So far, internship has been really fun, and I’ve learned many things.
