Model UN
What the project is about:
The purpose of this project was to learn about the civil war going on in Syria, and to learn what the purpose of the UN is. The topic we discussed in our two day conference was the Syrian Refugee Crisis. Each student represented a country and debated over possible solutions for this worldwide problem. I represented Russia in committee 6.
My Research on Russia:
Russia is the world's largest country, it borders European and Asian countries. Russia's government is a semi-presidential system. It is also one of the biggest supporters of Syria's current president, Bashar Al-Assad. Since Russia is not big on humanitarian aid, it has mostly been helping end the Syrian Refugee Crisis by supporting Syria's president with financial aid, food, water, and their military forces.
Most Useful and Helpful Article:
This article was really helpful because it had information on everything I needed. It had information on Russia's economy, its population, its president, their resources, and most importantly, Syrian Refugees. I found this article in my third day or making research. The first two days I was mostly focusing on what Russia was doing to help refugees, but then I realized that I needed more background information on this country. This article had everything. One interesting fact that I learned from this article is that Russia had accepted about 311,407 refugees in the year 2015.

In all of my position papers, the main thing that kept changing over and over was my first paragraph in which I explained the crisis and why it needed to be discussed. The second time my draft was critiqued I kept adding more facts. The third time it was critiqued, my peers Ivanna and Teagan told me to write it more in Russia's perspective. What I'm most proud of is how I was able to write my position paper and while doing so, how well I was able to portray why Russia supported Assad.
