Why I'm advocating for this social justice topic
I am very passionate about body image. It is something that I know a lot of my friends struggle with, and this would be a way to help and support them. Another reason why I'm advocating for this social justice topic is because I would also be helping my favorite woman in this world, my mother. Even though she doesn't admit it, being body positive is something she struggles with. I hope that when I share this project with her, it'll help her very much. Also, I want people to realize that woman are not the only ones that struggle with how they view themselves, but also men. This is a topic that many people might not realize affect all of us, no matter what gender.
First Draft of Zine Cover
This collage is about beauty, or what people think beauty looks like. I wanted to create one side that looked "girly" and "beautiful" while the other was what I think beautiful looks like. I created this collage when our class went on a field trip to MCASD. It was very hard getting started because I had no idea what I wanted my zine to look like, and I couldn't find much to put. This helped me realize that I want to take a different path to my social justice topic. I want to focus on body image and not so much on beauty standards.
From the sources I used to create my proposal I learned many things. One of them being the exact definition of body image. I also learned that it is actually called body dissatisfaction. I got to learn how people that suffer from a negative body image don't have the social needs to relatability and status.
