My Cuarderno Interactivo:
Spanish means to me my family and friends. Knowing Spanish is really important to me because that's the language I speak at home and how I communicate with most of my friends. Even though I am Mexican, in this class I really want to learn more about the Mexican culture. Knowing more than one language is important to me because I get to communicate with more people and it'll really benefit me in future jobs. What I'm really excited about in this class is getting to communicate more with my friends and help others who don't really know Spanish.
My "I Sing to You" Poem
This is the poem I wrote about Alejandro. This was difficult to write because even though we had the outline of it done for us, we had to get to know our partner in minutes and decide how to write it. I admit I'm actually kind of proud of it, I really think Alejandro liked it.
This is the creative piece I did for my partner. I drew a city because we talked about what we want to be when we're older, and he told me how he wants to be an architect.
Chicano Park
We visited Chicano Park to get inspiration for our drawings for our project. When we got there, I was amazed by all the murals. I have to admit, they all looked really hard to do so I was not really inspired by them for my drawing. It was still a fun experience. Here are some pictures taken by my friend Alexandra:
Borderline Cases: Pictures That Enlighten and Words that Deceive
I learned in this project that immigrants go through more things than I knew. For example, they flee their countries for many reasons, money, safety, a better future, family, etc. Immigrants also go through many harsh conditions through their journey to safety, and many die trying. The purpose of this project was to learn more about immigrants, especially child immigrants. For this project I created a drawing that answered the question, Is the American Dream Real?
There were 5 essential questions that we could chose from to answer them in our drawings:
1. Why do people immigrate to other countries?
2. What are the challenges they might face when entering a new country?
3. What is the difference between acculturation and assimilation?
4. What things are essential or necessary to achieve success in the US?
5. Is there an American dream? Is it for everyone?

This is my final piece. I had many drafts, but they were all different. I did this one last minute because my mind changed about the American Dream. It is real, but in my opinion, it is not for everyone.
Exhibition was really fun for me. At first it was scary to explain to strangers what our project was about and how I answered one of the essential questions in my art piece. It was also really fun talking to my mom about my drawing and explaining to her what immigrants go through and teach her things she did not know before. I'm really proud of my art piece because I'm not really an art person, but I think it turned out pretty decent. I'm also really proud of myself because I'm really shy when it comes to talking to strangers in general, but I was able to step up a little and talk about my opinion and their opinions.
