The message my group was trying to address was saying "no" to what we don't believe and agree with. For example, our zine talked about rape, masculinity in women, beauty standards, and body image. We all say no rape, beauty standards, and everything else we addressed in our zine. For example, in my zine I talked about body image, but also about the male gaze. I say no to it and how I don't agree with it. We all did pretty well in advocating for our social topic. We did this by explaining to others what our zine was about, why the title of it is "no", and why we believe what we believe. I chose this topic because it was a very personal topic for me. Negative body image it something that very close people struggle with. I knew I wanted to do this to help myself in order to be able to help others.
Writing a research paper really helped me understand my social topic. I found many articles written by experts therefore I was able to learn a lot about the science part of it. By doing the social advocate interview I got to learn more about the personal side of it. Writing a research paper was really hard for me. At first I felt really excited to write it, but then out of nowhere I didn't want to at all. It wasn't that I was lazy to do it, because I really wanted to but I just couldn't. After talking to my mom about it, I realized that I was in denial. Body image is still something that I struggled with and reading about it was hurting me. Reading more about this changed my perspective because it showed me how it is actually a very serious topic.
After the CV Zine Fest, I feel really proud of my zine group. We were able to sell over 15 zines and I honestly didn't think we were going to sell any at all. Overall, our group worked really well together. During this project, I learned that group work and communication is key. In future community events, I will apply what I learned. I now realized that communication is very important, specially when there are many groups in organizing the event.

These are my two zine pages. On the yellow paper is a condensed version of my research paper.
